Falconry in pest management

Falconry using birds of prey such as Harris Hawks or Peregrine/Hybrid falcons is a natural way of managing pest birds such as pigeons and gulls. Introducing the fear of a natural predator also has the least environmental impact. The aim is to create a hostile environment which leads to the pest birds moving on in search of more favourable conditions for breeding, roosting and feeding. The birds used for this type of work are trained especially for the purpose recognising the falconer as their source of food rather than actively hunting for themselves.
